Tips And Tricks About Facebook Timeline

Recent Timeline feature on Facebook has been applauded by most of the users generally. This new feature, though many think has security concerns, yet has changed the Facebook design for good as the response of the users has been more on the positive side. Timeline not only makes your profile look better but it seems to be a moving mosaic of photos and videos with so much information at a single place arranged in order of date and time. This surely makes the users spend more time checking out their friends profile to see what they did when.

If some of the readers have not yet changed to the new profile they can get started with this feature just by clicking the link below.

TIMELINE

Anyways this new feature needs some taking to. So here are some easy tips and tricks with pictures to help you make best of this new Timeline feature.

1. View All Your Timeline Content

tips7 Tips And Tricks About Facebook Timeline

Facebook’s mysterious algorithm decides which stories will showcase on your Timeline.

However, it also includes half-hidden posts. Posts that are marked on your Timeline, but not displayed, are noted by a blue dot on the central line. You can view these posts by clicking on the individual blue dots.

A quicker method is to click on the three blue dots underneath each year. This gives you the option to view all stories within that year.

1. Hide Stuff From Your Timeline
tipshide Tips And Tricks About Facebook Timeline

As we’ve pointed out, the Timeline gives friends the ability to view your entire Facebook history.

For this reason, we imagine the first thing most people will want to do is to “sanitize” their Timeline. The good news is, it’s simple to hide what you don’t want showing.

When you see a post you’d like to nix, just hit the pencil icon at the top of the post and select “Hide from Timeline.” This doesn’t delete the content from your account, but it will keep it safe from prying eyes.

3. Customize Your Favorites Boxes

tipsboxes Tips And Tricks About Facebook Timeline

Next up is the ability to customize the boxes that appear under your cover photo. The “Friends” and “Photos” boxes are fixed, but you can play around with the others.

To edit the boxes, click on the small arrow icon on their right. All boxes that can be moved or removed will have a pencil edit icon appear as you hover.

Hitting on the pencil brings up edit options to remove or swap boxes. To add a Facebook app, or one of the new social apps, click on the plus sign on an empty box.

4. Hide the Sidebar

tips Tips And Tricks About Facebook Timeline

You can make Timeline look even less cluttered by hiding the sidebar.

To do this, click on the arrow icon at the very bottom right of your screen. The sidebar will collapse, but leave the adverts to bug you — although, we’ve got a tip for those too…

5. Get Rid of an Annoying Advert

tips11 Tips And Tricks About Facebook Timeline

If a specific ad is really bothering you, simply adios it from your display.

Hover over the advert and click the “X” that appears at the top right. This gives you the option to hide it or hide all ads from that advertiser.

If you choose to hide the ad, Facebook gives you the further option to tailor what kind of ads appear on your account.

6. Change an Album’s Primary Photo

tipsprimary Tips And Tricks About Facebook Timeline
Albums you’ve created will show up in your Timeline. However, you can change the large, or “primary” image.

Click the pencil edit icon to select a different image from the album that will appear in the big window.

7. Feature a Post on Timeline

tips33 Tips And Tricks About Facebook Timeline

Make certain posts appear larger on your Timeline so they take up a double column space.

To do this, click the star icon in the top right corner of the post. You can minimize large posts the same way.

8. Customize Your Subscription Updates
tips44 Tips And Tricks About Facebook Timeline

When you subscribe to someone’s public updates, Facebook defaults to “Most updates.” You can change this.

Either go to the person’s profile and click the “Subscribed” drop down menu or, more efficiently, go click your “Subscriptions” favorites box (under your cover photo). This gives you a bird’s-eye view of the people you’ve subscribed to.

Now, if you hit the “Subscribed” box for each person you can tailor exact updates.

9. View Your Private Activity Log
tips55 Tips And Tricks About Facebook Timeline

If you’ve hidden items from your Timeline, but still want to review all of your Facebook content, look to your private Activity Log. Click on the “View Activity” box under your cover photo.

Now, by selecting a type of content from the “All” drop down menu, you can browse all your past Facebook activities, organized by date.

10. View Your Profile Through Someone Else’s Eyes
tips6 Tips And Tricks About Facebook Timeline

As with the former version of Facebook, you can view how others see your Timeline.

Click the cog icon under your cover photo; then select “View as…”

You can now enter a friend’s name or click on the “public” hyperlink to see how stranger’s view your Timeline.

11. How to Poke
tip Tips And Tricks About Facebook Timeline
Facebook has downgraded the famous “poke” in the new Timeline design.

If you still want to “poke” your Facebook buddies, you have to head directly to their profiles. Under a friend’s cover photo, next to the “Message” box, there’s a cog menu. Click this and you’ll see the option to poke. As always, use wisely.

Compress Videos to smallest size

Okay..A video is nothing but a series of still images moving in fast motion such that they appear to be moving.I mean a sequence of still images representing scenes in motion.Frame rate, the number of still pictures per unit of time of video, ranges from PAL (Europe, Asia, Australia, etc.) and SECAM (France, Russia, parts of Africa etc.) standards specify 25 frame/s, while NTSC (USA, Canada, Japan, etc.) specifies 29.97 frame/s.The minimum frame rate to achieve the illusion of a moving image is about 15 frames per second or the video will be too jerky and you will be a dead jerk.

TERMINOLOGY

  • BITRATE/Datarate- The parameter of quality of Video,Higher Bitrate,greater size and gr8 quality.Reverse is ALSO true !

  • FPS - Nopes..its not FIRST PERSON SHOOTER (Sorry gamers :P) Its Frames per second.Simply changing from 30 fps to 24 fps could result in as much as 20 percent file size reduction! It's better to choose a slightly lower, 'round-number' frame-rate in most cases, such as 24.0, or 25.0.

  • CBR - Constant Bitrate.Variable Bitrate in compression leads to high quality audio/video with less file size.

  • VBR - Variable Bitrate.Variable Bitrate in audio compression leads to less high quality audio as compared to VBR.Its Used for streaming purposes.

  • MP1/2/4 or MPEG1/MPEG2/MPEG4 - A video format developed by Motion Pictures Experts Group and Hence the name.MPEG 1 was the first in series allowing for video playback.MPEG2 allows DVD quality and MPEG4 aims at steaming internet media and High compression technique.

  • AVI - Audio Video Interleaved. One of the oldest formats available,It enjoys itself in new incarnations as DIVX and XVID.Its a shell in which other techniques/compression/encoding methods -are worked out.

  • High Definition- Very high bitrate media used for home/personal viewing.

FORMATS

Due to popularization of video, flurry of video formats have flodded the market. But still the most popular ones remain WMV,AVI,MPEG1/2/4,DIVX,XVID,H.264,FLV,RMV,QUICKTIME and More...

Audio formats include MPEG3,Ogg,AC3,WMA,WAV,RM and many more..

Then comes the DVD and High Defination Media,Encoded at much high bitrate

TOOLS

The List is long..and You might not want everyone of them :) To get them, just Google the name. They are widely recognized .

WARNING

=======

[VIDEO ENCODERS/DECODERS ARE SYSTEM/MEMORY HOGS !!! SINCE ITS A VERY INTENSIVE AND TIME CONSUMING PROCESS,YOU MIGHT WANT TO FINISH IT ASAP]

  • NERO - Available like booze and (almost) free. Make it enterprise (if u have not one already) and use NERO VISION to squeeze it out. Also supports editing.

  • Avid - Professionals Use it...nice interface..but still costly.supports editing.

  • IMTOO MPEG ENCODER - Terrific performance, supports exhaustive list of formats.Noobs and Newbie's,do yourself a favor and just stick to it.It will deliver almost everything you want (except editing).

  • FFDSHOW - A collection of collective codecs.Use command line (if you like) to encode videos,or just watch/decode videos using it. It comes free with K-Lite mega codec pack :)

  • VIRTUAl Dub - Free, fantastic and supports everything. But you might need to brainstorm for using it.supports editing and a lot of stuff !! Highly recommended for Geeks .

  • AC3DEC - Used to decode AC3 audio files. Most of DVD's use this audio compression method.Get its GUI program to get the best out of it.

  • FLASKMPEG - used to rip dvd's..well you have plenty of choices out there...

COMPRESSION

"SPEED VS QUALITY"

Compress using any format you want, full frames of even a 10 minute footage will eat up a lot of disk space in your PC.So..some of optimisation measures you can take to compress videos -

  • Choose a good codec like DIVX/XVID,MPEG4 or WMV.

  • When Aiming for MAXIMUM compression with MINIMUM quality loss,So just choosing the compressor is NOT ENOUGH..tweak accordingly bitrates (lower for low quality small file size and higher for more quality LARGE file size)

  • If a larger video is shrunk to 320x240 or similar size, the quality will be MUCH HIGHER than by simply capturing the same video at 320x240.Shrinking the frame size from say 640x480 to say 320x240,will often result in about the same picture quality as the original 640x480 video, but the new 320x240 file will probably be much much smaller.

  • Crop the video to get small frame size.

  • Use low bitrate audio to get small size video.

  • USE NO AUDIO for silent tutorials.

  • Frame rate can drastically affect filesize.

My Setting for Internet publishing/Mobile phones (low end net connection) -

  • CODEC - MPEG4

  • VIDEO BITRATE - 128/160 KBPS

  • AUDIO BITRATE (if any) - 32/48/64 KBPS

  • FRAME RATE - 15/24/25/30 FPS (choose your pick :P )

  • VIDEO SIZE - 320 X 240 for internet,176 X 144 for mobile phones

I use SNAG-IT 8 for as my screen capture program

DVD-RIP

FOR COMPRESSING 4 GB VIDEO MOVIE [Assuming you have .VOB files ready]

Section A for NOOBS

TOOL USED- IMTOO MPEG ENCODER

  1. open IMTOO.

  2. Select Movie File.

  3. Select video size from menu.For DVD quality,choose 720 X 480.

  4. Set Birate to 700-900 KBPS.

  5. Set Framerate to 25 FPS.

  6. Set aspect as you wish.

  7. Set Audio Codec to MP3,Audio bitrate to 160 KBPS/192 KBPS

  8.  Set Audio sample rate to 44100 Hz

  9. Hit Encode and leave the PC alone for encoding of file.

Section B for GEEKS OUT THERE :D

TOOL USED - VIRTUAL DUB,AC3DEC,FLASKMPEG

*PLACE ALL .VOB FILES AT SAME FOLDER !

[1]. open FlaskMPEG to convert the VOB video files, select video file,Choose the type of codec (compressor/decompressor) you want to use generally that will be DivX.DIVX LOW MOTION is best for almost all movies and for those which have NO ACTION and Fast-Motion is only good when almost the entire movie is very fast paced like Terminator 2 or that of Final Fantasy - Advent Children..you get the idea.. and set bitrate to 900 KBPS,frame rate to 24/25 KBPS,choose output location, set process priority to high and hit encode and STAY AWAY FROM YOUR PC !!! After a looooooong time, you will have a single AVI file.

[2]. Put AC3DEC.exe in UR VOB FILE folder, run command prompt, and type-

ac3dec [FILENAME1.VOB] -allvobs -out [filename2.WAV]

NOTE -

* ac3dec is the name of the application being run -- you can also write "ac3dec.exe", with the identical effect

* FILENAME1 is the name of the first .vob file -- in this case 'vts_01_1'

* FILENAME2 is the name of the .wav file you are going to create -- you chose 'MI3Sound'

* -allvobs means to include all .vob files in the folder sequentially (as a single logical file)

* -out means you want to specify the name and path of the output file

Using the example above you will type this in prompt:

C:\MI3> ac3dec vts_01_1.vob -allvobs -out c:\windows\desktop\MI3.wav

Press Enter and the saving process will begin. After it finishes, close command prompt. You will have a file named MI3.wav on your desktop (approx 1GB).

[PS: GUI VERSION OWNERS WILL HAVE LESS HASSLES..BUT AFTER ALL THIS SECTION IS FOR GEEKS :P]

[3]. open Virtual Dub and select Movie File.Choose "Direct Stream Copy" from VIDEO menu.

[4]. Open the audio WAV file which was created by going to the AUDIO menu, and choosing "Use WAV file". Select the .wav file. Choose "Full Processing Mode" under Audio menu.

[5]. Then Choose "Compressor", choose the MP3 codec,Set Audio quality to 160 KBPS for high quality and 192 KBPS for Very High quality audio.

[6]. Then set 24.000 or 25.000 FPS from Frame rate option in video menu.

[7]. Choose "FILTERS" in the VIDEO menu and Add filters you want one at a time (if you wish).Configure it and use it accordingly.

[8]. Hit encode and in 25 to 50 minutes you will have your rip ready :)

NOTE : You can test how good the compression is so far, by compressing the resulting video file into a RAR file. Two Cases arise then -

  1. If there is less than 5% compression, the compression is probably about as good as it will get.

  2. If there is more than 5% compression, the audio and/or video can probably be compressed even further.h.264 or xvid/DIVX are your best bets for smallest file size at any given quality. Just keep in mind that eah has various quality settings that effect the compression, and thus the output size. You could use the same program to convert to each, but if the default settings are different, your output file size testing would be skewed.

Guide to Usenet | Usenet – download faster than torrents | Fastest download speeds

I am pretty much bombarded with questions regarding Usenet in my seminars and on my email, so I thought why not to cover a guide over it. Usenet is the granddaddy of networks, yep, I said it. You might flame me by citing Arpanet and some other primitive networks, but then again, it was Usenet which prevailed massively before the modern Internet and was the hip thing which allowed to share binary files, movies (even your fantasy p**n stuff ), games and a lot more. Basically Usenet was a kind of BBS where the first generation of geeks shred what they had, in the 80’s, someone came with an idea of sharing binary files (read:your standard files) over Usenet and there we go, it became a phenomenon. Most people joined Usenet so as to get access to those files and trust me; it was a phenomenon to witness.

Usenet is based on decentralized servers which share content with each other over UUCP protocol, and has content arranged in a hierarchical manner - theprohack.com

Usenet is based on decentralized servers which share content with each other over UUCP protocol, and has content arranged in a hierarchical manner.

  • Enough theory, lets get on to some interesting facts (in context with torrent junkies and conspiracy theories :P ):

  • Usenet is faster than the fastest of Torrent Trackers, BLAZING fast speeds, and I mean it.

  • Usenet has a lot more data categorized there to be picked by the worthy then your best Torrent tracker can ever get.

  • No Seeding, No Uploading, Instant Speeds ! It’s a wonderland for 24X7 downloaders.

  • Usenet is dying, and whatever is left of it, is quite different from what it originally was.

  • Usenet is dying because government can’t control it.

Ridiculously , we all have heard of Usenet , but as far as I know people, nobody uses it. I got my first slice of it in 2007 and since then, I have loved every bit of it. It’s an outstanding archive of data which you may not find over Internet, yep, it’s that good.

The primary reason Usenet is not so popular because people just don’t want to use their heads. They just want a point-click-download option to download their files. As compared to traditional downloading and torrents, Usenet is a bit different to setup, and I will tell you how to set it up, really.

Step 1 - Choose Your Usenet Service

Long ago, ISP’s hosted Usenet binaries and provided access to Usenet and news servers. They were happy with people connecting and subscribing to these services and infact actually supported by giving long retention time (the time for which a file is hosted over a Usenet server) to the binaries. But then the advances in technology gave people amazing speeds and faster broadband connections and they literally abused by downloading like there was no tomorrow. Further the government was pissed off by the amount of illegal data (read:child p**n and sm*t) hosted there and decided to shut it off, although not fully successful, the ISP responded by putting bandwidth constraints , restricted content and a lot of weird measures.

Step 1 - Choose Your Usenet Service - theprohack.comAnyways, to get to the mother load of the downloading, you need access to the alt.binaries content and for that, you need to buy access. Really Sorry! But Usenet isn't a p2p and you have to pay for bandwidth and storage it if you want to use it. The best news? for a meager 15$ per month you get a month for unlimited, unthrottled access. Okay, it might be a lot for you, but if you want to have a Usenet experience, you can have a free trial at Usenet providers like GigaNews or Astraweb. Don't forget to look at -

  • The retention time.(300 days +)

  • The number of parallel connections (more connections, more speed, but it stops meaning anything unless you are on a 100Mb pipe)

  • Download limits (amount of data you can download..obviously)

Step 2 - Choose your Client

Again, just like you use utorrent / xunlei to download your torrents, you need a client to download yor files through Usenet. Someties you may have noticed a torrent file which is broken into 20 MB rar files each, probably that file has been downloaded from Usenet and uploaded to torrent, as in Usenet a file can not be uploaded beyond a fixed size, that too in a compressed form. The real trouble starts to download and organize those files, but fear not, thats what are Usenet clients for; they download and join those compressed files into one automatically. My favorite one is SABnzbd, and I will be covering the rest of guide taking it in view. Like torrent files (.tor), in Usenet NZB files are used to point out and download files, your client will be able to figure it out.

My favorite one is SABnzbd, and I will be covering the rest of guide taking it in view. - theprohack.com

Download SABnzbd

Run the program and SABnzbd will open in a browser window.

Run the program and SABnzbd will open in a browser window. - theprohack.com

Now click on “Config” tab and click on “servers”

Now click on “Config” tab and click on “servers” - theprohack.com

Enter the server settings your Usenet provider gave you after signup (Astraweb's at left). Staying in the "Config" page, click "Folders"

Staying in the "Config" page, click "Folders" - theprohack.com

Select the folder where you want to download files and the temporary files folder (pretty standard stuff) .Also choose a "Watched" folder where the NZB files will be placed and SABnzbd will know what you want it to download. Make it a place that's easy for you to save to, from a browser.

Once done, you are ready to explore Usenet.

Step 3 – Downloading files

“Usenet is like a herd of performing elephants with diarrhea- massive, difficult to redirect, awe-inspiring, entertaining, and a source of mind boggling amounts of excrement when you least expect it”

- Gene Spafford

Yep..Usenet is an incomprehensible mess. Thats why they created search engines like Newzbin (paid and invite only), NZB.org, Binsearch, Newsleach to find your files using NZB format and to download it. Think of it like torrent search engine where you find your favorite files.

Once you find your NZB, download it to the your "Watch" directory and SABnzbd will take care of it . Or you can download it wherever you want, and add it manually to SABnzbd by going to "Add File". Once done, you will have something like this -

downloading and adding files - theprohack.com

It's working! And yes, it's really going that fast.

But if If it's not downloading, you may need to check your server settings as some ISPs block the default port, 119. WOrry not, you can use another one that your provider supports. 8080,1818 are some common ones.

Once downloaded, it will automatically be joined and served with chilled beer (just kidding)

Thats Usenet :)

Enjoy…

Social Search Recommendation

The internet as a conduit of information cannot be over emphasized, but how such information are presented and the level of accuracy of search results remains a great challenge. Hence, the need for more human contribution to the search mechanism through viable social features.

Google's recently launched, Plus One (+1), seems a tool in the right direction to incorporating social experience into general internet search. It's a direct recommendation of things of interest which invariably effects better search results.

Plus One (+1) makes it easier to find exactly what you are searching for when a friend or someone you know already found it. The social connections to search may greatly enhance local search as it directly recommends a product to friends and gives a general rave review.

Microsoft had earlier incorporated Facebook 'like' into its search result, but not effected in overall search algorithm.

The new search trend is perhaps a major shift in the visual architecture of internet search, albeit the search giant is yet to integrate it into its search algorithm. However, webmasters have been called upon to avail themselves of the social tool in their web contents as it will soon serve great search engine optimization (SEO) criteria.

Meet Allahabad's Internet sensation, Govind Tiwari

Tiwari gets creative with Obama

Internet makes heroes of unusual people. On Monday someone tweeted a link to the blog of some Govind Tiwari. Within a matter of hours, the little-known teenager from Allahabad was an Internet sensation. In an interview, Tiwari tells us more about himself and that he had no clue about his fame till he read about it in the papers on Wednesday.

On the morning of Wednesday, Govind Tiwari woke up wondering why on earth every single person in his phone book was trying to reach him.

As it turned out that morning's Dainik Jagran had a photo of his on the front page and a turn to page 5 where an article mentioned about his rather unusual achievement.

If you are on Twitter you'd probably know that Govind Tiwari is no ordinary man.

Tiwari was number one on Twitter's trending topics and number 5 worldwide! The reason? This: http://govindtiwari.blogspot.com/

Someone tweeted a link to this blog with its gaudy and awful-as-hell design, not to mention his blinking photographs and even a picture of Obama watching his picture on television.

By the time someone somewhere said 'Govind Tiwari', the link went viral and by Monday afternoon practically everyone on Twitter had noticed his work of genius.

How to change AutoRecover interval in Office 2007 and 2010?

Among the many useful features of the Microsoft Office 2007 applications is AutoRecover.  It involves saving all the data in the Office 2007 application after a specific time interval so that it is recovered in case there is a power outage or a system crash. All your work or data in the Office application is saved automatically after that specific time interval. This feature keeps you from losing work you have done. By default, this AutoRecover interval is set to 10 minutes in all the Office 2007 applications. However, it is possible to change AutoRecover interval in Office 2007.  If you change AutoRecover interval in Office 2007 to less than 10 minutes such as after every 5 minutes, you will be able to save your work or data frequently. It will prove very helpful if you are facing problems in the power supply or your operating system.
The option to change AutoRecover interval in Office 2007 is offered for every application. Here we will use the example of Excel 2007. Follow these steps to change AutoRecover interval in Office 2007:

1.     Click on the Office button.
2.     Click on the "Excel Options" button on the bottom of the resulting menu.
3.     The Excel Options dialog box will appear. Select Save on the left hand side of the menu.

4.      Check the box for "Save AutoRecover information".
5.     Select how often you would like Excel to save the data for AutoRecover.
6.     Click OK.

You should not set the time to a very short time interval. Remember that when working on larger worksheets or documents don't set the AutoRecover to a very short time interval such as 1 minute because that may begin to slow down the computer, as saving a large amount of data after each minute will strain the computer.

Facebook soon launching skype video chat

Facebook will add Skype video chat to its pages, aiming to spice up the appeal of the world’s No. 1 Internet social networking service while fending off increased competition from Google.

The agreement, announced by Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg at the company’s Palo Alto, California, headquarters on Wednesday, deepens the company’s cooperation with Microsoft Corp, which is in the process of buying Skype.

Microsoft owns 1.6 percent of Facebook and announced its US$8.5 billion purchase of Skype in May.

Zuckerberg said Facebook has hit a record 750 million users. The new service, rolling out from Wednesday, could be a huge boost for Skype, which currently has about 145 million regular users.

Facebook’s Skype service, initially limited to one-to-one video chat, will be free. Financial details of the deal, if any, were not disclosed.

Skype chief executive Tony Bates said Wednesday’s deal with Facebook was only the start of a potentially lucrative partnership.

“For us, this makes a lot of business sense,” Bates said at the Palo Alto event. “We get huge reach. In the future, we’re talking about potentially also having Skype paid products available within the Web format we saw here today.”

In a phone interview later on Wednesday, Neil Stevens, the general manager of Skype’s consumer business, said the company was planning on introducing a for-pay service that would allow users on Facebook to place calls to landline and mobile phones.

Stevens said he could not provide a timeframe for when such a service might be available, and said details about whether the service would work with Facebook’s so-called Credits currency had yet to be worked out.

Facebook, which also unveiled a group messaging function, adding to its existing one-to-one text chat, is returning fire from Google, which last week turned up the competitive heat by introducing a social networking service dubbed Google+.

While many of Google+’s social networking features are similar to those already available on Facebook, Google is generating interest with its videoconferencing function, which allows up to 10 people on the service to participate in a video call.

Zuckerberg hinted that video chat for multiple people could eventually be available on Facebook, but he said that most video chats today occur between two people.

“We think this is awesome because we’re using the best technology that’s out there for doing video chat with the best social infrastructure that’s out there to create some really cool new scenarios,” Zuckerberg said.

Zuckerberg said Wednesday’s announcements were the first of several to come in what he described as “launching season 2011.”

Free conference calling

Conference calls are a convenient method of communicating with a lot of people all at once. Technologies today allow many different types of conference calling.

For a small business, simple 3-way calling may suffice. This feature is available through your telephone company and whatever long-distance rates you have on the phone that originates the call will apply.

When several people located in many different places need to access conference calls, a conference call company can provide this service.

A basic conference call service offers audio conference calls (also called teleconferencing) over the telephone. Usually, you have the option of toll-free calls or flat-rate calls.

“Toll-free” is sort of a misnomer because “toll-free” does not mean it’s entirely a free call because the person or business that hires the conference call company pays for the service.

Toll-free conference calls are free for the participants. With toll-free packages, participants use a toll-free number to dial into the call via the conference call company.

The charges for the calls are usually by the minute for the length of the call. In many cases, the more minutes used, the less money per minute it costs. For instance, one package may offer 1,000 toll-free minutes for or 7 cents a minute. If you go over 1,000 minutes, each additional minute would cost 7 cents. Another package may offer 10,000 minutes for 0 or 4 cents a minute and 4 cents for each minute over 10,000 minutes. You can see the cost goes down with the larger packages.

A flat-rate conference call package requires the participants to pay their own long-distance charges. They dial a regular phone number to access the call via the conference call company. The company who hires the conference call company also pays a flat fee to set up the service.

The conference call companies always offer features that augment their basic service. For example, you can have the conference call company record your conference calls and then provide a playback. The playbacks can even be on-demand so people can hear them at any time 24/7.

As you might imagine, conducting a live conference call with dozens of people on the line at once could get a bit out of hand with everyone talking at once and noise in the background as well. Technology comes to the rescue with mute buttons that allow the moderator and/or operator to control what is broadcast on the call.

The operators at the teleconferencing companies can assist you in many ways. In addition to connecting participants as they call in to access your conference, operators can even call participants and then connect them to your call. Operators can attend the entire conference call, providing opening announcements, introductions for host and speakers, moderating question and answer sessions and making closing comments at the end of the call.

Audio conference calls are not the only options available to you. Web conferencing is another type of conference call that utilizes access through participants’ computers. Participants are able to view PowerPoint and whiteboard presentations and to share documents. Communication among participants can be audio or via chat formats. Upgrades of web conferencing services include application and desktop sharing, remote control and video conferencing.

As you can see, there are many ways that businesses today can communicate effectively via conference calling. There are lots of conference-calling companies to choose from and the competition among them drives good bargains for business owners who will take the time to do a little research to find the best bargains.
